12 y.o. attempted shrapnel-bomb attack on a Christmas market in Ludwigshafen. This has been reported by "Focus" citing sources from the Justice and Security offices.
According to the investigators, the kid is strongly radicalized and probably incited by an "unknown member of the IS". The kid is a German-Iraqi born in 2004 in Ludwigshafen.
He placed a backpack containing a homemade bomb in a coppice near the city hall. This caught the attention of a passer-by who alerted the police. An special unit of the police detonated part of the explosive material.
The police informed back then that a 12 y.o. was the suspect of placing a glass with pyrotechnical material near the city hall.
According to Sebastian Burkhard, the police speaker of Rheinland-Pfalz, the suspect obtained the material from fireworks and sparklers. "It was flammable but not explosive".
Already a couple of days before, on November 26th, he tried to detonate a glass filled with black powder in the Christmas market. The glass was wrapped with tape and contained nails. The material failed to ignite.
According to the police, further information is not released to to strategical reasons.
