Last month, several reports have been forwarded to DUIC about unsafe situations on the Canal Street in Lombok of people being intimidated by men of foreign origin.

A 35-year-old from Utrecht, who preferred to remain anonymous, (name known to editors) tells his story to DUIC. Last month, he ended up in a threatening situation when he was cycling through Canal Street at night when he was intimidated by men wrapped in a djelebba (long robe) and robbed of his phone and bicycle.

He then realised his bike and phone were taken. He then went to a kebab shop for safety but then a North African ran in and shouted at him "Why are you here? You should not have called the police. What shocked the man the most was that "there was obviously some kind of sharia control taking place in our city. People are talking about their neighborhood."
